Thousands of Mancunians took to Heaton Park today in aid of Cancer Research.
The 4450 runners that took part in the Race for Life 5k and 10k were joined by a further 5000 people in the ‘Pretty Muddy’ event, which saw adults and kids take on an obstacle course.
Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach was among those getting muddy for charity, whose aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.
She wrote on Instagram: “PRETTY MUDDY thankyou to my besties for taking part with me and thankyou to everyone who donated, between us we raised £830 !!!!!! amazing, very proud of us all.”
The Heaton Park event hopes to have raised £445k for cancer research across the weekend, adding to the £820m that has been raised since the Race for Life series began.
A Cancer Research spokesperson said: “The atmosphere was incredible – full of like-minded men, women and children all taking part to help beat cancer together.

“Money raised from the event will go towards funding research into over 200 types of cancer.
“We are now urging people to return their sponsorship, which can be done online, by cheque, or at your local CRUK shop.”
