Budding American football stars of the future will descend on Manchester this weekend to contest the Jaguars Se7ens Cup – with the prize at stake an all-expenses trip to Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta early next year.
NFL outfit Jacksonville Jaguars, the only team committed to playing annually in the UK, are offering the prize which will go to the winner of the north v south clash prior to the Jaguars’ game against Philadelphia Eagles at Wembley on Oct. 28.
The ‘north’ section champions – to be decided on Saturday when more than 150 players will compete – will be trained up by a former Jaguars player before they contest the final at London’s Allianz Park.
Hussain Naqi, senior vice president of international development for the Jacksonville Jaguars, said: “The Jaguars Se7ens Cup is truly special, growing year on year, and for the winners the greatest prize in British American football. Both tournaments are a lot of fun but have a high level of skill and competitiveness too.
“We want to create the best amateur sports tournament in the UK and I believe we are on our way, the 80 team places will sell out in no time and hopefully we can continue to grow it next year.”
Jaguars and Fulham owner Shad Khan is yet again showing his commitment to British NFL fans and possible future players like London’s current Super Bowl champion Jay Ajayi (Philadelphia) and Manchester’s own Menelik Watson from Longsight (formerly Denver Broncos).
Last year’s Se7ens saw 60 teams sell out within three weeks and the tournament featured on Sky Sports, while this year’s tournament will be bigger and better with 80 teams taking part across two tournaments in Manchester and London.
