A young entrepreneur who spent months teaching himself about code in the local library is set to launch a new business.
Connor Hall, 23, came up with the idea for Live Oldham almost a year ago and left his job to commit to the project full-time.
The company, which now employs four people, will consist of both a website and an app which can pull in content from a variety of sources in order to give the user focused information about the area they live in.
Connor, speaking to MM after the official reveal event for his project on Friday, said: “I am so proud of everything we have achieved so far.
“I hope in five years we will be a national business.”
The event was held in the new Hack Oldham venue and was attended by business owners and officials from the area, including MP Jim McMahon and the town’s mayor Councillor Shadab Qumer.
The venue was built to encourage local people to take up opportunities in technology and to create a space for entrepreneurs to begin building businesses.
Oldham MP McMahon tweeted about the launch event, saying: “Delighted to support the launch of Live Oldham. Connor Hall and his team are amazing ambassadors.”
The aim of the project is to give local companies a presence online, which in turn would give people using the service more information about the places they visit often or may enjoy.
It also offers a number of other features including travel information for local tram networks, cinema listings and times, customisable notifications and list of events.
Plus, it will give businesses the ability to quickly put on events or deals and instantly send that information to people as a notification.
The website is expected to launch within the next week and the application will follow soon after.
