The Northern Lawn Tennis Club are hoping that the success of this year’s Aegon Manchester Trophy can help them return to their title of ‘Wimbledon of the North’.
June 12 saw the completion of the tournament at the Northern in Didsbury, with Zarina Diyas claiming the singles title, after knocking out Stockport born Naomi Broady in the semi-finals, while Magdelena Frech and An-Sophie Mestach won the doubles.
The ITF $100,000 event was the largest prize money ever for a women’s tournament in the North West and with another tournament secured for 2018 the Northern are hoping they can put themselves back on the map and regain their reputation of ‘Wimbledon of the North’.
