‘When the music changes, the walls of the city shake’: Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett hopes for unity at Bridgewater Hall

Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett hopes to push boundaries and unite a warring world when he performs at Bridgewater Hall on Friday 5 May as part of his 2017 tour.

The 15-date Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett tour will see rock legend Hackett promote his upcoming album, The Night Siren, which will be released on 27 March through InsideOut Music.

In a bid to unify a world so divided as of late, Hackett’s god-like guitaring will serve as part of a collaboration with artists from various countries around the world to create a musical celebration of diversity.

The new album will showcase artists from Israel and Palestine who work together to create peace between their people, instrumentals from the USA to Iraq, and the distinct sound of Indian sitar and Peruvian Charango.

Hackett, a lover of travel, said: “This latest waxing represents a bird’s eye view of the world of a musical migrant ignoring borders and celebrating our common ancestry with a unity of spirit.

“From territorial frontiers to walled-up gateways, boundaries often hold back the tide. But while the night siren wails, music breaches all defenses.

“To quote Plato, ‘When the music changes, the walls of the city shake’.”

Hackett is a singer, songwriter and producer hailing from London who has been active in the music industry since 1970, having started playing the guitar at age 12.

He was part of iconic rock band Genesis from 1971 to 1977, playing alongside Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
