Most of us only need to know street names when we’re giving directions or sending a letter but have you ever paused to consider how they got their names in the first place?
Here at MM we decided to get in touch with writer, tour guide and editor of Manchester Confidential Jonathan Schofield to explore the history behind some of Manchester’s street names.
Was Deansgate named after the lost River Dene? Who was John Dalton? What’s the story behind Balloon Street?
