Dogs Trust Manchester have found homes for nearly 2,000 hounds since their birth two years ago, and you sense it’s only the start of something much, much bigger.
As the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, the trust cares for almost 17,000 stray and abandoned pooches each year through its 20-strong Rehoming Centres network, with one also in Dublin.
And with four-month old deaf American bulldog puppy Daisy currently homeless, the Manchester centre’s Dawn Bishop told MM she’d be a brilliant addition to a family.
“People probably think that it will be far more difficult to train a deaf puppy but that’s not necessarily the case,” she said.
“Puppies themselves can be quite challenging and although Daisy comes with some unique challenges, she is a very focused pup and she’s already learning lots of new things.
“We think she would make a wonderful companion for the right family.
“She’s a young puppy – she’s got lots of energy, she loves to play with her toys and enjoys having a cuddle.”

With blind dogs previously heading to homes, Dogs Trust Manchester have a brilliant record of supporting dogs in need.
That’s not to say the dogs don’t have a fantastic time in the Denton base though.
Since it opened there has already been 18,000kg of dried dog food eaten and 28,000 tins of dog food have been devoured.
Not only do the dogs eat like kings, they receive fantastic support from kindly animal lovers.
“We don’t receive any government funding so we are totally reliant on people making donations and that’s not just financial donations,” said Ms Bishop.
“People bring bedding into the centre and especially at this time of year which we always need to make our kennels as comfortable as possible.
“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us. So many dogs are in loving homes thanks to everyone who has come to us to give a dog a second chance.”
Donations of everything from tinned food to bedding and foodie treats are gratefully accepted to make sure they have everything they need whilst waiting for their forever homes.
