George Nott says that the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final will be a huge occasion for the whole Sale Sharks’ squad, as they prepare to lock horns with Cardiff Blues in their quarter-final.
Sale progressed from the group stages at Kingston Park, where they finished runners-up after wins over Leicester Tigers and Worcester.
Lock Nott is hopeful of a big crowd at the Ricoh Arena for the Singha 7s finale to spur on his team-mates, and the England under-20 international believes that Sharks can make further progress in the competition if they can become more consistent in their play.
“I’ve never played at the Ricoh Arena before but it’s a big ground and I’ll be excited to play there,” he said.
“Hopefully there will be a big crowd and I think the boys are all really excited to be honest.
“I think we’ve got to go with the mentality to win like every team should. We have shown how good we can be in parts so if we keep up some consistency going through the finals we’ve got a really good chance of winning.
“Consistency is definitely hard, especially in 7s when you can see a game can swing in a matter of seconds, but the boys have gelled really well.”
Sale had a mixed day at Kingston Park on Sunday, initially falling to a 31-12 defeat against hosts Newcastle Falcons after surging into a 12-0 lead.
They bounced back strongly with an eight-try humbling of Leicester Tigers in a 55-7 victory, before scoring a further five in a 31-0 win over Worcester Warriors to send them through to Coventry.
But Nott knows there are things to work on throughout training this week, as the young squad continue to develop their 7s skills.
“There were some really good things today shown by the boys. There are obviously lots of things to work on, especially from the Newcastle game, but I was really pleased with the performance,” added Nott.
“There’s a few things highlighted such as kick-off receipts, but there’s always going to be things to work on.
“None of us are out and out 7s players so we’re just going to have a look, a bit of analysis, and try and work on it ahead of the finals.”
