‘We love this city’s culture’: Cycling festival set to head to Manchester for first time

A festival for cycling enthusiasts is set to pedal its way to Manchester for the first time.

Spin  The Cycling Festival will mix art, fashion, music and, of course, bikes.

Held at Victoria Warehouse, the event will bring together a huge range of road, urban and city cycling brands.

The festival will also host what organisers call the UK’s first public cycling conference with industry experts debating the future of cycling.

First held in London in 2013, Spin has gone on to become one of the fastest growing cycling events.

“We love the city and its culture, and have found the perfect venue by Media City to host our ambitious show,” said Megan Hogg, Marketing Executive for organisers Mercury Cycling Events.

“Our thoughts are firmly on creating the best cycling show possible for Manchester and giving it the festival it deserves.”

Over 150 cycling brands will be in attendance bringing must-have products, kit and ideas.

The festival caters for all levels of what Spin calls ‘velophiles’ to create the ‘ultimate experience of cycling culture’.

“In London we have always remained an incredibly accessible event, we have mums, dads, kids, road cyclists, commuters, hipsters, all rubbing shoulders without prejudice, which is part of the charm of Spin,” Megan told MM.

“Cycling as a sport has become the new golf for some, however the way it’s galvanised the country has been exceptional.”

Cycling aficionados Sam Martin and Helen Pidd are among 20 speakers who will be in attendance to talk about their experiences in cycling.

The world’s best BMX flatland riders will compete against each other, with beginner and expert classes available for those looking to learn more about the sport.

There will also be an indoor test track for those who would like to try bikes out before purchasing, and a track for children and adults to try out scooters.

“Spin taps into the sport but also opens access to the culture of cycling and rather than alluding to the exclusive nature of the higher echelons of the sport, the show looks to be as inclusive as possible,” said Megan.

“This inclusion allows a huge cross section of people to visit the show.”

The event also features The Frame Lab, where visitors can view workshops and presentations on frame building.

Wishbone Theatre will be showcasing Mountain High Valley Low a performance about living a fulfilling life with bipolar affective disorder.

Cup North – a two-day Coffee festival – are also collaborating with Spin to please the caffeine-loving attendees.

The event will run from May 6-8.
