‘We are all hurting’: Oldham assistant Holden reeling after Millwall leave it late

Oldham assistant manager Dean Holden says the club have a right to feel hard done by after a late goal saw Millwall leave Boundary Park with all three points.

Lee Gregory gave the visitors an early lead before Mike Jones levelled with a free-kick, but Steve Morison’s 85th minute winner left Latics without a win in seven.

Holden stood in for David Dunn in the post-match press duties and says Millwall, in poor form themselves, were lucky to grab a victory.

“[Millwall manager] Neil Harris has come and apologised to us and said ‘I feel like we’ve robbed you today’,” said Holden.

“It feels a little bit raw at the moment, and the lads are hurting.

“We feel a little bit hard done by, but the last few performances have improved dramatically and that was the best we have had for a while.”

Following a week that saw three players leave the club as well as constant rumours surrounding Dunn’s future, Holden admitted that the boss is taking the latest result particularly hard.

“It has been a tough week and we all know what has gone on behind the scenes,” said Holden.

“But this happens, and there is no point in moaning about it. We are hurting but we will just get on with it.

“The commitment was there for all to see and that is really pleasing. We will keep working – hard work is the key.”

Dunn has made no secret of his desire and stringent attempts to bring players in, and will also be pleased to see Jonathan Forte returning from the bench after a long term injury.

As well as Forte’s substitute appearance, Joel Coleman produced a solid goalkeeping performance after replacing David Cornell as one of four changes from the draw with Colchester.
