Oldham v Millwall: Dunn vows to come out fighting in make or break January

Oldham boss David Dunn is keen to get the focus back onto his players ahead of Millwall’s rearranged League One visit to Boundary Park, after a week of speculation surrounding the 35-year-old’s future.

Millwall sit in 10th place with just three points from a possible 15, whereas Oldham were left ruing Colchester’s 81st-minute equaliser which denied them a first win in six matches last weekend.

With just 14 points from his 16 games in charge, Dunn found himself victim of unfounded social media rumours after the Colchester result but vows to keep on fighting for the club.

“I need to win more football matches, and I’m going to come out fighting,” said Dunn.

“I want what every Oldham supporter wants, so we need to pick ourselves up and turn these decent performances into wins.

“Millwall are a very organised, committed side with some dangerous players, but training has been very good so let’s hope we can get them when they have a few players missing.”

Oldham’s financial difficulties have forced the departures of top scorer Danny Philliskirk and Mark Yeates to Blackpool, but Dunn is pleased to have acquired a few familiar faces.

Burnley duo Danny Lafferty and Cameron Dummigan return for further loan spells, while Doncaster have cancelled Richie Wellens’ contract and Rhys Murphy has shone since returning from Crawley.

“Rhys has been very good the last couple of games,” said Dunn.

“It’s great that he got the goals so we are really pleased with him, and he has come back fresh.

“The loanees will fit right back into the swing of things, and there are a few more irons in the fire. We might have a few outgoing as well, so we will see if we can get them done.”

Following last Saturday’s draw Dunn made no secret of his desire to shake up the squad, and believes his method of frankness will see Oldham’s fortunes change.

“I like to think I’m honest and straight-talking, and that’s what I’ll keep doing,” he said.

“I want to get this club back to where it wants to be.”
