Bury boss David Flitcroft said that he aspires for his side to be like Leicester City, as his side beat Chesterfield 1-0 despite a host of injuries.
Danny Mayor grabbed the winning goal after 68 minutes, as the Shakers secured three points without Chris Hussey, Chris Eagles or top-scorer Leon Clarke.
Flitcroft said the build-up to the game had been difficult as several players pulled out through injury after last weekend’s FA Cup success.
“Coming off the game on Sunday the lads were buoyant, but we’ve had to pick up the pieces,” he said.
“But that’s football management, the best teams in the world – Arsenal and Manchester United – have a lot of injuries, it’s just the way it is.
“But when you look at a team like Leicester who have got very consistent players and performers that is what I want to get to.
“And we will do, we’ll keep improving this group and making sure we get as much game time as we can.
“Chris Eagles has pulled a groin so that’s ten days out for him. Leon’s got an intercostal injury which, with conditions how they were, it could have turned into a six week injury.
“We missed [Hussey] and he takes 20% away from what we do with his set pieces. Him and Danny Mayor are spectacular down the left hand side.”
Flitcroft felt that his side had stuck to their game plan and showed their character, after hitting the post three times before half time.
“The game-plan was to start hard and to start fast, which we did,” he said.
“The tempo was fantastic and we got it out to our wide players. We just didn’t kill them off.
“I could feel the players were frustrated at half-time, we’d hit the post three times and nearly got the edge.
“When you’ve got a top player like Danny Mayor on the pitch you’ve always got an opportunity to score.
“But you don’t win anything with talent alone, you win things with character, and they showed that in abundance.”
