Louis van Gaal has defended his Manchester United side’s performances despite growing concerns over a lack of quality going forward.
The Red Devils travel to Leicester City tomorrow evening and will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s sluggish goalless draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Some sections of fans inside Old Trafford were heard booing at the full-time whistle in midweek but while Van Gaal admits it is important supporters are satisfied with performances, he defended his side’s organisation.
“The fans have to be happy. You are playing for the fans so you cannot deny that,” said the United boss.
“If we weren’t creating chances I’d be worried, but we are and we don’t give too much away – normally our results are good.
“Our defensive organisation is normally the best part of our game. We’ve proved that more than ever this season.
“That is why we are second in the league and second in our Champions League group.”
Few would have predicted at the start of the campaign that Saturday’s match against Leicester would be a top-of-the-table clash, but the Foxes’ impressive start to the season shows no signs of waning.
Claudio Ranieri’s men are unbeaten in their last six league games with in-form striker Jamie Vardy able to surpass Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring in ten consecutive Premier League games should he net against United.
Vardy was instrumental in the Foxes memorable 5-3 victory over United last season – a game which still holds bitter memories for Van Gaal.
“I don’t want to remember that game especially, because of the result but also the way we lost wasn’t good,” said the Dutchman.
“I think that our defensive organisation is normally the best part of our game and after the match against Leicester, we are proving that we have very good defensive organisation and we have proved that his season more than ever.”
United are without Ander Herrera and Phil Jones for the trip who both sustained injuries in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Watford.
A win will see the Red Devils leapfrog Leicester as United seek to finish the weekend top of the Premier League.
