David Dunn says he is relieved Oldham avoided a cup upset at the hands of Mansfield, but remains disappointed as the Stags forced a Boundary Park FA Cup replay on Saturday.
Dunn made four changes to his starting line-up, opting for an attacking formation featuring three forwards, but Latics failed to find the net for the third consecutive match.
Cameron Dummigan was the hero at the other end, making two goal-line clearances and ensuring Oldham have conceded just three times in their last five.
“I suppose we are in the hat for the next round at the minute, so it’s not too bad,” said Dunn.
“I thought the lads worked really hard, and kept going until the end, but we weren’t great with the ball today.
“I’m not happy with a draw – I want to win every game. But like I said, we are still in the hat so it is better than getting beaten.”
Before the game, Dunn – who placed himself on the bench at Field Mill – emphasised the importance of avoiding defeat, with Notts County, Barnsley and Bristol Rovers all suffering at the hands of lower-league sides.
The message was not lost on the players, with Dunn impressed by his side’s professionalism in tackling the game and earning a replay next Tuesday night.
“It was not the most entertaining on matches, but I can’t fault the effort and commitment that we put in,” he said.
“I’m not even thinking as far ahead as the second round draw. Mansfield are a tough side, they work hard for each other and we will have to put the same commitment and desire in.”
Oldham return to league action on Saturday away to Chesterfield, before Mansfield visit Boundary Park next Tuesday evening to kick off a run of three home games.
