World Spine Day: Manchester residents offered free spinal health checks in city centre

The BPP University School of Health are offering free spinal checks at their city-centre clinic next week to help highlight the importance of back care awareness.

The opportunity comes ahead of World Spine Day on Friday October 17 and offers Manchester residents the chance to alleviate their spinal problems as well as finding out more information about maintaining positive back health in the future.

Around 80% of the UK population will suffer from back pain at some point during their lives, with 48% of men and 46% of women reporting back troubles in the last year.

Furthermore, it is estimated that 12.5% of all sick days in the UK are attributed to back pain which equates to around 2.8million working days each year.

Master’s level interns from the Oxford Street university will be available to help sufferers and give guidance on a range of musculoskeletal problems including lower back pain, neck strains and headaches.

There is also an opportunity for people to find out more about the university’s recently launched chiropractic programme in Manchester which is helping to bridge the shortage of chiropractors in the north of England.

Professor Christina Cunliffe, Dean of BPP University School of Health said: “For those looking for a career in helping others, chiropractic is an excellent choice as it is recognised and regulated as a primary care profession in this country and around the world.”
