Tony Hand’s experience is getting an upbeat Manchester Phoenix through their injury crisis, says owner Neil Morris.
Manchester Phoenix face a duo of Deeside fixtures as part of a tricky three-match week after suffering defeat away to Milton Keynes Lightning on Wednesday.
Despite looking like making an impressive comeback from 4-0 down in the first match of the week, the score finished 6-4.
Manchester Phoenix owner Neil Morris said: “It was close against Lightning, playing on the road is difficult especially when we’re borrowing players.
“Our injuries mean there’s a lack of understanding between the players on the ice.
“Usually we’d spend days training together before a game but we’re working out the lines live in a game, which you don’t want to do.
“But the experience of Tony Hand comes to bare, he helps the players to play to his style throughout the game.
“The fight back was on against Lightning but it didn’t come off in time.”
This weekend it’s the turn of Peterborough Phantoms and Hull Pirates to travel to Deeside to face a fifth-place Phoenix.
Phantoms currently sit second in the table having won five of their eight league games whilst Pirates are propping up the table and looking to secure their first win of the season.
Morris looked ahead to the weekend, saying: “Having two home games is definitely of benefit to the team.
“Hull have brought two new players in so we’ll be their crash test dummies and they haven’t been far off in the games they’ve lost, they are scoring goals so they will pose a threat.
“Three of my best players are sat on the bench, but if we can take two points from this weekend and look to regain our boys soon then we can really push on for the rest of the season.”
Manchester Phoenix play Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday 10 and Hull Pirates on Sunday 11.
