Sale Sharks still in the hunt for Kings of the North title after Mujati dream debut

Sale Sharks kept their 100% record in the Kings of the North tournament after an impressive 38-5 victory over Leicester Tigers this weekend.

Steve Diamond expressed his delight with his new signing, Brian Mujati, after his try scoring debut at the AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday.

“I thought he did very well. He hasn’t had any game time in a long time so it was much needed.

“He’s already a popular guy in the changing room, and is a great addition to our side,” he said.

The giant prop’s influence in the scrum and the maul was clear to see as the Tigers were repeatedly found wanting up front.

Mujati took to social media to celebrate his first try and victory in a Sale shirt: “Some special beers to celebrate the first touchdown. Maybe off the back of a maul but after a two-year (sic.) drought, a try is a try I guess. So good to be back in the land of the living. #cheers”.

Diamond took a balanced view of the Sharks’ victory, which they achieved without star men Danny Cipriani and Peter Stringer.

“Overall, I’m pleased with the team’s performance. We were good in certain areas, but still have a number of things to work on,” he told Sale Sharks’ website.

With the exception of Sam James, Mark Jennings and Nev Edwards, the Sharks fielded a completely different side in the second half.

“We’ll whittle it down to a 23 man squad to face the Tigers and Falcons in our final two games in the competition,” said Diamond.

The Sharks did not manage a win against Tigers for the entirety of last season and the team are not about to let their 100% record slip.

The side has a two week break now before facing Newcastle Falcons at home on October 2.

The squad have flown out to Lisbon to put in some hard gym hours before returning to close in on the title of Kings of the North in a fortnight.
