Successful food entrepreneurs will reveal their business secrets at an event aimed at helping people break into Manchester’s growing food and drink industry.
Restaurateurs Mary-Ellen McTague, co-owner of popular restaurant Aumbry, and Tomas Maunier, founder of northern chain Fazenda, will speak at the free ‘Recipe for Success’ event which is being held in partnership with the Manchester Food and Drink Festival.
Over two hours audience members will hear the inspiring stories behind the successful businesses. One of the speakers, Carla Taylor, was forced to abandon her career to care for her son who was suffering from a debilitating long-term illness.
When she recovered she found herself without a job or career direction. Her entrepreneurial spirit enabled her to establish Penelope’s Kitchen, which has grown from an ice cream stall into a catering empire based at MediaCityUK.
Councillor Rosa Battle, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure said: “We have already held a number of Inspiring Entrepreneurs events at libraries across Manchester and they have been really popular with audiences keen to learn first-hand from people who have made it in business – often having overcome many challenges in this process.”
Other speakers include Vincent Walsh, the brain behind Salford-based sustainable food initiative Biospheric Foundation and David Fox from the Pan- Asian eatery Tampopo.
Attendees will be given the chance to grill the experts in a Q&A session, and run their queries and ideas past staff from Central Library’s Business and IP Centre and Manchester Markets who will provide key information about how to set-up and run a successful business.
The event will take place between 6-8pm on Wednesday September 16, at Central Library. If you are unable to attend you can live stream the event here.
