Police issue CCTV pic after man left with broken jaw in Rochdale takeaway attack

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with an attack outside a Rochdale takeaway which left a man with a broken jaw.

The unprovoked attack happened outside the Planet USA takeaway on South Parade, Rochdale, at about 5am on July 26 this year.

The 39-year-old man was stood outside when, for no reason, the offender confronted the victim and attacked him, leaving him with a broken jaw.

The offender is described as white, of a slim build, with brown hair and spoke with an Irish accent. Police have now issued a CCTV still of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the attack.

Detective Constable Gabriel Gibson said: “For reasons known only to the offender, he launched into a needless and unprovoked attack on this man, leaving him with a broken jaw and an injury to his foot.

“It’s possible this attack was induced by alcohol or drugs but we cannot say for certain – all we can say with any certainty is that this was an unprovoked attack that left a man with a broken jaw.

“We have issued a CCTV still and I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in this image to come forward.

“I would also urge anyone who witnessed what happened, or perhaps any taxi drivers who may have picked up the man in the CCTV still, to call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 1559/270715, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
