A series of roadshows are being held across the summer in a bid to recruit more foster carers in Stockport.
The main recruitment drive is for those willing to provide safe and loving homes for older children and brothers and sisters with Stockport, like most areas of the country, short on people coming forward.
The fostering team kicked off their campaign last month when they were joined by the Mayor of Stockport Councillor Andrew Verdeille at Heald Green Festival and are planning to host a stall at Stockport Carnival this Saturday.
Local foster carers will be on hand to talk to the public about their experiences of fostering and the team will be explaining how to apply and become a foster carer in Stockport.
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Children & Young People, said: “We are committed to recruiting more foster carers in Stockport, foster carers who can make a positive difference for a young person’s future.
“Stockport, like most areas across the country, is in particular need of foster carers for older children and sibling groups. There is also a scheme recently introduced for specialist carers and we are always interested in hearing from anyone who is thinking of considering fostering to contact the Council for more information.”
The fostering service holds regular monthly open evenings and then next two will be held on August 4 and September 8 at Stockport Town Hall for anyone interested in fostering older children or brothers and sisters, plus finding out more information about fostering in general.
Both events start at 6pm.
