Kirsty Law admits finding herself a coach is top of her to-do list after coming away from the Sainsbury’s British Championships with bronze in the discus final.
The Sale Harrier went into Saturday’s final at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium with high hopes having made her senior Great Britain debut at last month’s European team championships in Cheboksary, Russia.
But she was way down on her season’s best of 56.03m with her best distance being 52.15 from her second attempt.
Indeed it was one of only two distances recorded by Law with four foul attempts following in the final rounds.
And while still enough to finish on the podium behind eventual champion Jade Lally on 57.37, Law, a seven-time Scottish champion, admits a lack of coach is affecting her chances.
“It was an OK competition, I wasn’t expecting too much so I am happy to come away with the medal,” said Law, speaking at the event, a partnership with British Athletics that builds on Sainsbury’s support for the 2012 Paralympics and recognises that sport can unite and inspire children of all ages.
“It’s nice to throw against these girls, I can’t be disappointed with my performance.
“It’s been mixed preparation, my training hasn’t been great and I don’t have a coach so I’m happy with the performance.
“I came back from a training camp in April with Dan Greaves, it was really good out there but I came back without a coach.
“It’s been hard because it’s hard to get motivated but hopefully we’ll get it sorted and then we can move forward.
“I’m looking to Rio next year, I know I can throw the standard so I just need to train really hard over the winter and hopefully it will come next year.”
Elsewhere there was disappointment for Trafford’s James Bowness who failed to progress from the heats of the 800m after finishing fourth in the opening heat in a time of 1:50.26.
While Sale Harrier Roy Ejiakuekwu finished fourth in his men’s 100m semi-final on Sunday.
