The world’s first computer game based entirely in Manchester is set to be officially launched on Windows 10 in September.
Beyond Flesh and Blood, developed by Pixelbomb Games, is a graphically intense third-person shooter that will also be available on Xbox near year.
The game is set in the distant future when humans are set to abandon Earth, highlighting well-known areas of the city such as Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, Deansgate and the Triangle.
One of the game’s project leaders, Lee Blacklock, was overjoyed that it was chosen to be developed as part of the ID@Xbox programme.
“We are extremely proud to be part of the ID@Xbox programme; their presence at major events has been incredible,” he said.
“And as busy as he is Agostino Simonetta [manager of ID@XBOX program in Europe] being present to chat to developers speaks volumes about Microsoft’s real commitment to [independent games] like us.”
The ID@Xbox program is designed to enable qualified game developers of all sizes to unleash their creativity by self-publishing digital games on Xbox One.
Following almost 10,000 PC demo downloads from three free pre-alpha demos since October 2014, Pixel Bomb Games are extremely excited to be releasing this game via the ID@Xbox self-publishing program.
Set 266 years from now after a global war, the majority of the human race are set to abandon Earth and live on the edge of its atmosphere in an orbital space station.
Players become Ethan, and through thick and thin are strapped into multi-abilityTactical Combat Frames which battle a range of enemies across the post-apocalyptic UK city for a full 6-9 hours of story-led gameplay.
Beyond Flesh and Blood is the first chapter in a planned trilogy and Mr Blacklock has said they are already exploring ideas for other games that utilise the same universe.
The game will be released on Windows 10 in September this year and the Xbox version will be released in 2016.
