Kids across the city have been given a lesson in picking up their dog’s poo as part of the Dogs Trust’s ‘Big Scoop 2015’.
As part of the campaign, school children are taking part in a competition to create a poster to deter dog owners from ignoring their dog’s waste.
The winning poster will be shared online, and the chosen artist will be awarded with Dogs Trust goodies.
THE BIG SCOOP: Manchester schoolkids are creating posters to deter dog owners from ignoring their dog’s waste
All schools will also receive The Big Scoop leaflets, posters, capes, poo bags and rosettes to get their young people behind the campaign.
Anna Baatz, Dogs Trust Education and Community Officer for Greater Manchester said: “It’s the small minority of irresponsible dog owners who leave their dog’s mess on footpaths, in parks and green spaces.
“Many people may not realise that when it comes to disposing of dog waste any public bin will do! Dog owners simply need to pick up their dog waste in a poo bag and place it in any bin.”
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and has 22 education and community officers around the UK who visit schools to talk to pupils about being responsible dog owners.
The annual campaign, which is now in its third year, was set up by Dogs Trust and Keep Britain Tidy to encourage the public to tidy up their dog waste.
SCOOP THAT POOP: Kids are being encouraged to spread the message ‘bag it and bin it’ to dog owners
The Big Scoop 2015 calls on councils and members of the community to become ‘Scooper Heroes’ and spread the message to ‘bag it and bin it’.
With over eight million dogs across the United Kingdom, more than 1,000 tonnes of excrement is produced every day.
