FORMER Manchester City Star Paul Dickov is set to be confirmed as the new player manager of Oldham Athletic in the next few days.
The ex-Scotland International agreed a two-year contract last Monday after impressing Oldham officials.
But as Dickov has since gone away on holiday Athletic will not officially announce his arrival until contract formalities are confirmed.
Oldham Athletic chief executive Alan Hardy said: “Holidays have caused the delay with our preferred man out of the country.
"While he has been away, we have been speaking with him over the telephone and discussing a number of matters relating to planning for next season.”
The 37-year-old helped Leeds United to win promotion after 18 months at Leicester City
Oldham season ticket holder John Thompson believes Dickov's arrival could be the start of a revival for the club.
He said: “The club has been stale for the last few years and we need a big name like Dickov to give us the boost we need.
“I heard that our old manager Andy Ritchie was considered for the job but I would have been disappointed if he got the job. We need to move forwards not backwards.”
Dickov is possibly best remembered for equalising in the fifth minute of added time for Manchester City at Wembley against Gillingham in the League One play-off final.
He replaces Dave Penney who was sacked in April after the Latics narrowly avoided relegation.
