Oxfam in Didsbury played host to a photography exhibition to raise money for charity last night.
Works were showcased by talented local photographer Lauren Maccabee, and all profits raised by sales and donations went to Oxfam Unwrapped – a scheme which converts donations into practical gifts for people in the Third World
The exhibition was staged as part of the Didsbury Arts Festival which runs until 2 October and encompasses more than 170 events across 70 venues in the area.
The event came about when the manager of the Didsbury branch was so impressed with photos the artist’s friend had shown her that she recommended an in-store exhibition.
The 18-year-old photographer has just started at Manchester Metropolitan University and mainly uses friends and family in her pictures.
Much of the work on display depicted the beauty of nature of Manchester – a theme not commonly associated with the industrial city.
Lauren said: “I have tried to base a lot of the work in the local area. A lot of these pictures were taken of my sister in places like Fletcher Moss.”
