Poker players and gamblers beware! Change could be on the cards in Bury

Fans of poker and gambling may have to look elsewhere for their entertainment, as Bury Council are reviewing their gambling policy.

This could mean significant changes for casinos and betting shops alike, depending of course on the nature of the discussions currently taking place.

So to any British poker players looking for their next event, Bury might not be the place for you.

The council has begun consulting with the necessary parties, the Chief Constable of the Greater Manchester Police, a selection of gambling businesses and licence holders.

Anyone else with an interest in the matter is also free to comment on any potential amendments to the existing policy.

In accordance with the law, the council must have a policy, reviewed every three years, which sets out how to grant and enforce gambling related licences.

A deadline of October 18 has been set for the consultation period to end, after which all responses and comments will be published.

Although it is only early days in the consultation period at the moment, Bury’s poker players and gamblers need not worry just yet. Any new policy statements or amendments to the current one will not come into effect until January 2013.

Whatever happens, casino games and poker will still be available to everyone on websites like this one.
