Manchester City's Brian Kidd ‘putting his shirt’ on England to win Euro 2012 in support of children's charity
Football legend Brian Kidd is backing England to win the forthcoming European Championships and is encouraging fans to ‘put their shirts’ on it for charity.
The Manchester City assistant manager and former Manchester United legend is backing an initiative called I Put My Shirt On It, which asks people to back England or Ireland to win the Euros, by purchasing a charity T-shirt branded with their chosen team.
The £3 from each t-shirt sold goes directly to various charities, including Hearts and Minds Challenge, Henshaws Society for the Blind and Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Kidd, a member of the 1968 Euro Championship squad, recently joined pupils at St Bede’s College, to help raise awareness about the ground-breaking initiative.
Students of the college are behind The School Under The Tree, a project to raise money to help educate children in Ethiopia.
Speaking at the college, Kidd said: “I Put My Shirt On It is a fantastic idea that turns people’s passion for football into pounds for charities.
“The School Under the Tree is a wonderful cause that raises money to educate children in Ethiopia. It’s great to know that fans of the game can help support organisations such as this, just by backing their favourite team.”
The initiative is receiving support from famous names across the world of entertainment and sport. Stars including Melanie Sykes, Keith Duffy, Ronnie Whelan and Michael Le Vell, have all been seen sporting the T-shirts.
James Lindemann, founder of I Put My Shirt On It commented: “This is the beginning of an exciting project, which I hope will make a tangible difference to the lives of many people.
“We’re thrilled that Brian is supporting the I Put My Shirt On It initiative, and we look forward to raising money for many wonderful causes, such as The School Under The Tree.”
