Manchester’s Cornerhouse hosts UK’s biggest student film festival ‘exposures’ for 18th year
Manchester’s finest artistic and world cinema house, Cornerhouse, is hosting the country’s leading student film festival exposures this February.
The annual event, fully named exposures: new talent in moving image will run from February 21 – 23 and is now in its 18th year.
With Shameless creator Paul Abbot as a patron, this unique festival gives students from across the country a chance to showcase their films in front of a cinema-going audience. Students also receive a unique insight into the TV and film industry.
Paul Abbot said: “The great thing about exposures is that it allows you to learn more through workshops and panel discussions, as well as the informal networking sessions where you can bump into independent producers, staff from the major broadcasters, established directors and all sorts of industry professionals in an exciting and relaxed atmosphere.”
The event is the result of a collaboration between numerous universities and Cornerhouse, including MediaCityUK’s residents the University of Salford. All day and night there will be screenings, special events and social gatherings from the nation’s most outstanding new creative talent. Guest speakers in the past have included Bury’s Danny Boyle and actor David Threlfall from Channel 4’s Mancunian series Shameless.
Filmmakers from Manchester Metropolitan University, University o fBolton and University of Salford will be included in the list of 45 films to be shown. The event received over 300 short films from students wishing to be a part of the festival.
