SPORT RELIEF: Divas raise money for charity

By Dean Wilkins

Ten of Manchester’s drag divas are ready to race in heels instead of wheels to raise money for Sport Relief 2012.

The event will take place on Canal Street, March 25, as Belinda Scandals and fellow eager divas will battle it out to be crowned race champion. The lovely ‘ladies’ will be pulling their Sport Relief socks up, donning their deeley boppers and making a dash down the world-famous parade of gay bars in the heart of Manchester city.

To help support the charity runners, please visit www.sportrelief.com to make a donation. You can also find other events being held to raise money or information about organising your own fundraiser.

Belinda Scandals, the race organiser and ‘Queen of Drag Queens’, said: “We’re hoping to raise as much money as possible for Sport Relief. They do a lot for international charities, as well as a tremendous amount for Manchester and local communities.

“The support from everybody has been fantastic and we hope there’ll be a lot more come March 25. I’ll be running in six-inch white heels, which is something I’ll only do for charity!”

Expect handbag swinging, cat-fights, a few broken nails and some very rumpled mini-skirts as the talented bunch of female impersonators, singers, dancers and comediennes come together for a good cause.
