NO DEAL: United's bid for Brazilian starlet is off

By Jonathan Humphries

Manchester United’s efforts to sign highly-regarded Brazilian prospect Lucas Moura have fallen through according the Sao Paulo winger’s agent.

Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his interest in acquiring the 19-year-old starlet’s services on Monday.

However Moura’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, has claimed that the deal is off after Sao Paulo reportedly rejected two bids from United, and demanded a sum of £30million.

“They have reached their limit,” Ribeiro told Brazilian website UOL.

“Lucas Moura won’t leave.”

Moura is currently in London preparing for Brazil’s Olympic campaign, but Ribeiro insists he will be returning to his club.

“He is happy at Sao Paulo. We have to forget this subject. There is no possibility he leaves now.

“Manchester United made an offer, which was rejected and they won’t make another one as they have reached their limit.”

With Moura’s signature beyond reach, it is likely that United will turn up the heat in their pursuit of want-away Arsenal star Robin Van Persie.

United are battling with big spending Premier League champions Manchester City and Serie A title holders Juventus to sign the 28-year-old Dutch striker.

The Red Devils have already tabled a £16.5million bid for last season’s Premier League top scorer, and should now be able to top any offer from the Italian club.
