Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa is being showered with praise and rave reviews from his new manager and teammates.
The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker was the Red’s first summer signing, costing a reported £17million including add-ons.
Despite not currently speaking English, 23-year-old Japanese international Kagawa has demonstrated that he can speak the language of football fluently, impressing both manager Sir Alex Ferguson and defender Rio Ferdinand in pre-season training sessions.
At a press conference in Shanghai, the latest destination on United’s pre-season tour, Ferguson said: “The thing that’s impressed me is that every exercise we do on the training ground, he’s never needed it to be explained.
“It just goes to show that a good footballer can pick up exactly what’s needed, so he’s been fantastic in that respect.
“After one demonstration he joins in, as if he’s known the language forever,” he added. “We know he doesn’t speak the language, but it isn’t a problem.”
England international Ferdinand has also been captivated by arrival of Kagawa, as he said: “I’ve been very, very impressed as he’s quick, he’s sharp, he has great awareness, he plays off both feet.
“I’m excited about playing with him and getting the season started and I think he’ll be a great acquisition.”
