POP PRINCESS: Alyssa Reid

Canadian pop princess Alyssa Reid sat down and chatted to MM before her Key 103 debut.

The 19-year-old, whose single Alone Again was released last year after being discovered covering a Justin Bieber song on YouTube, is quickly learning about the dizzying heights of fame.

She said: “This is pretty amazing, this is my first time doing some really huge shows in the UK so it’s a pretty good start!

“I’m much more comfortable doing this than doing smaller shows, I don’t know why – maybe it’s because there are so many people there’s a good chance that half of them are going to like you.

“I’m really enjoying the ride, it has been pretty cool because I was still in high school when we released Alone Again, and so I feel like I jumped from being in high school to performing at stadiums in the UK.”

And although she is relishing her musical journey she acknowledged that she was unprepared how different her life would be.

She added: “It’s happened really fast and I have to admit I was not prepared and I still kind of don’t feel prepared for it now but I’ve definitely learned a lot of coping skills because it’s really hard to be away from your family and friends.

"Being young you really need to lean on your support and it’s really hard to be away from them.

“I still sleep with my baby blanket, I bring it everywhere I go in the world; it’s my home away from home."

Although being away from home is tough, she seems to have taken to the city: “I really like Manchester, although I haven’t really been able to see much of it other than the venue, but driving around is really nice.

"Although people are terrible drivers here! Or maybe I’m just a terrible driver because I’m on the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the road, but they are not sympathetic!”

Her next gig in England is to perform in front of Her Majesty, no less.

She added: “The thought of performing in front of the Queen feels really amazing, but I still can’t quite believe it yet.”
