JAILED: Bolton robber sentenced

By Dean Wilkins

A vicious Bolton robber who slashed a shop assistant’s face was sentenced to three years in prison yesterday.

Jack Barnes, 23, of Lord Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery after his attack on a BP garage who left a worker with a three-inch gash on their face.

Barnes ran inside brandishing a large kitchen knife leaving customers terrified after he demanded the cashier to ‘give me your money now’.

He grabbed the victim by the throat and forced the blade into his cheek but the courageous worker fought back and Barnes fled empty handed.

DC Adam Gleave, of Bolton CID, said: “Barnes was a violent determined robber, he held his victims at knife point leaving one with scars to his face and hands.

“The staff at this store were traumatised by what happened to them, but hopefully this result will provide some comfort to the victims knowing that the Barnes is behind for this robber and is serving a long sentence in prison.”
