First ever permanent LomoWall worldwide to be erected in Northern Quarter, Manchester city centre

By Charlie Bennett

Camera connoisseurs, art bohos and anyone that likes to party will want to check out the world’s first ever public permanent Lomography Wall being unveiled in Manchester’s Northern Quarter next week.

This 30m long and new landmark to the Northern Quarter’s ever-growing street art landscape has been commissioned by CityCo and Lomography UK to celebrate the start of the 2012 Canal Festival.

The LomoWall is made up of 14,000 individual snapshot-sized analogue (film, not digital) images submitted from around the globe and via workshops occurring at Oldham Street’s Lomography Gallery Store – it will be a diverse selection, then, but party attendees can expect the images to have plenty of the off-kilter exposure and waves of undiluted colours that characterise the art-form.

Lomowalls have been built in Trafalgar Square in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, but this will be the first one in the world that will be both permanently on display and in public.

Like the above, the photos on display can be enjoyed individually, but from afar, the wall will appear as a vibrant mosaic.

The launch party takes place by the wall on Tariff Street on Thursday 26 July from 6pm to 7pm

The after-party takes place at the Lomography Gallery Store, where there will be DJs and drinks.

The 2012 Canal Festival will be celebrated between August 18 and 19.
