A ‘greedy’ thief is being sentenced after stealing the shoes and handbag of a woman who lay dead in the middle of the road following a fatal collision in Manchester.
Mark Kirvin, 46, of West Avenue, Altrincham, pleaded guilty to theft in Manchester City Magistrates’ Court and was jailed for four months.
Sarwari Ashraf, 62, was killed while crossing Upper Brook Street, Longsight, on March 29, and her personal items were scattered across the road.
Detective Constable Anna Rickards, from Longsight CID, said: "The circumstances leading up to the theft are tragic, and although Kirvin may not have known who these items belonged to, he knew they belonged to someone.
“Kirvin had no regard for his victim or the consequences of his greed.”
Kirvin was driving along Upper Brook Street when he saw a pair of shoes and handbag in the street.
He stopped his car, picked up the belongings and drove off.
