Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh is set to play one of the soap’s first leading ladies and fan favourite Elsie Tanner in the up-coming musical – planned to visit Manchester.
The news was rumoured around a month ago, but the star is expected to confirm her role in the May-planned musical tomorrow.
Street of Dreams, will be narrated by Paul O’Grady and is expected to be a musical based on some of the show’s most celebrated story lines, including characters such as Ken Barlow and Bet Lynch.
Kym, who plays Weatherfield’s Michelle Connor, will be taking on the 1960s favourite Tanner, originally played by Pat Phoenix.
One fan commented on the Coronation Street Blog: “Can’t wait, think Kym Marsh is perfect for Elsie.”
Yet another wrote: “[She’s] not strong enough to play Elsie, hard act to follow, she was the best.”
Alongside Manchester, the musical is expected to visit Newcastle, Belfast and Dublin.
