Tools of the trade: Ricky Hatton’s champions Martin Murray and Scott Quigg to give Hyde boxing lessons
World-class boxers Martin Murray and Scott Quigg will give lessons in the sweet science at Ricky Hatton’s Hyde-based health club, it was announced today.
The undefeated fighters – both promoted by the Hitman –will show participants how to develop the tools of their trade in skill workshops at Hatton Health and Fitness.
The three-hour sessions begin with a master-class from Bury-based Quigg – the reigning British and WBA-interim super-bantamweight champion – on March 2, and the 24-year-old is looking forward to it.
"I'm very proud to be one of the first boxers to host the course. It's great to be able to help people and I'm massively looking forward to the day," he said.
"I think it's a chance for me to meet the fans and give something back.
"There's a lot of people out there who have never boxed before so they might be a bit apprehensive, but there's no need for them to be.
"This allows people to come along, get fit and have some fun, and if we can get more and more people interested in boxing it can only be good for the sport."
On March 30, middleweight contender Murray will be teaching, just under a month before the biggest fight of his life – a world title clash against division kingpin Sergio Martinez.

Murray, who last November demolished Jorge Navarro in a six-round TKO victory for the WBA-interim title at the Manchester Arena – is keen to pass on his knowledge.
He said: "I like teaching boxing – I'm currently doing my ABA coaching courses and I like speaking to passionate people and showing them what it takes to be a professional boxer.
"I feel very humbled and privileged that people want to come and have a session with me – I'm going to put 100 percent into it.
"Hopefully I can pass on a bit of knowledge and help them with their own training techniques."
Both workshops start at 12 o’clock and those taking part will be able to score autographs and photos with the champions afterwards.
