Former X Factor hopeful and Lancashire lad Aiden Grimshaw is set to show off his talents to a Manchester audience in just over a month’s time.
After his elimination in the ITV talent search, he was shortly signed to RCA records and released debut single ‘Is This Love’ to some success.
The single received high praise from The Fly who said: “‘Is This Love’ is an expertly-produced, soaring dance-pop juggernaut backed by pounding beats and hefty, sparkling synths.”
His first full length album, Misty Eye, is to be released on August 20.
The album has been two years in the making with the producer behind Tinchy Strider and Lana Del Rey hoping to capture the boy’s X Factor magic.
Misty Eye is full of heartfelt lyrics about the universal experiences of love and loss. Aiden describes the underlying theme of the album: “It’s that life is worth living, but love is worth everything”.
At the time of writing the album, he was listening to everything from Moby to Ian Brown to Katy B. Early reviews claim however that the record shows Aiden doing what he does best and being himself.
Aiden himself played a large role in the recording of the album, playing piano, banging on beer bottles for percussion, and all of the vocals are his save for the occasional female backing.
Describing the process, he said: “It never got hard, it wasn’t stressful. It never really felt like work.”
The first single from the new album, Curtain Call, is available now. He plays Manchester Academy 3 on September 30.
