ROBBERY: Masked duo leave with nothing

By Dean Wilkins

A failed robbery attempt at a Sale pub left staff shocked after a pair of thugs in balaclavas raided the back door on Sunday.

The Brooklands Tap, Hope Road, was targeted by two men, at approximately 1am, who tried to break-in the building.

A customer was assaulted while another who was smoking outside was forced to try and get the landlord to open the door before the pair smashed a window and drove off empty handed.

A witness who did want to be identified said: “Two males who were wearing balaclavas tried to break-in to the pub but thankfully they were unable to get anything and left with nothing.”

The duo escaped in a dark coloured saloon car that had been parked on a nearby, towards Marsland Road.

Detective Constable Paul Hatton, of Trafford CID, said: "The men have made a concerted effort to gain entry to the pub – going so far as to assault a customer and cause damage to the building – for what we believe was a robbery attempt.

"Thankfully they have been unsuccessful and no one was seriously injured.

"I want anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the men drive off, or anyone who knows anything about those responsible to call police."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7651, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
