Team GB’s velodrome welcomes BMX stars of the future to Manchester

Budding BMX riders are being invited to try out the brand-new track at the National Cycling Centre.

The centre is known the world over for its top class velodrome but the new £24m BMX track is one of just two indoor facilities in the world.

The facility boasts a 400m long track and is set to host several major BMX events that will attract riders from all over the world.

But in keeping with the London 2012 spirit the centre is inviting amateur riders to give BMX riding a go this summer.

Children from as young as six are welcome to try their hand at the sport and even if you do not own a bike yourself there are 96 Haro bikes available for rent from as little as £2.

And if you show talent you may even be snapped up – seven-year-old Kirsten Dillon from Sale was spotted at the track and was selected to ride for Team GB at last month’s UCI BMX World Championships.

The summer sessions run from 8am until 10pm and group or party bookings are also available.

Wannabe track cyclists can also test themselves inside the world famous velodrome which hosts the likes of Gold medallists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton MBE on a regular basis.

Over the summer holidays kids training sessions will run for an hour with two expert coaches starting at £6.50 including bike and helmet hire.
