A Salford City Reds rugby player is apologising after posting controversial homophobic messages on Twitter last night.
The Reds prop Jordan James called football players ‘poofs’ and ‘faggots’ while watching the Euro 2012 highlights.
The former marine – who joined the Reds this season – is a former teammate of ex-Welsh international Gareth Thomas who was rugby’s first openly gay player.
James Tweeted: “Seriously why are footballers such f***ing poofs, throwing themselves about trying to draw fouls, strap a pair on and play the game faggots.”
Shortly after the 31-year-old said: “Last tweet was in no way meant to offend gays or homosexuals, so sorry if it did, was merely pointing out that footy players need to man up.”
