May the best mixologist win! Bartenders compete for cocktail glory at Manchester’s Epernay bar

By Samson Dada

Some of the most delicious, creative and mouth-watering cocktails concocted by Manchester’s finest mixologists will see one lucky bartender jet off an all expenses trip to France in October.

Epernay Champagne Bar will play host to the Bénédictine Cocktail Challenge on Monday September 23 which will see each participant preparing a cocktail containing at least 35ml of Bénédictine with the finest taste, spice, brand awareness and appearance.

One lucky winner will fly to France with three other regional winners from London, Glasgow and Birmingham from Wednesday October 16 – Friday 18.

They will enjoy a cocktail themed visit to the Palais de Fécamp, the liqueur’s birthplace in Normandy and a cocktail safari of Paris.

Paul Curry, brand manager at Bénédictine Liqueur, said: “Last year’s competition really showcased the fantastic talent there is out there in the UK and we’re looking forward to seeing what exciting creations the professionals have up their sleeves for this year.

“Epernay prides itself on its experimental and innovative cocktails, and with Bénédictine’s unique flavour being a great ingredient for cocktails, it promises to be a great competition. May the best mixologist win!”

The traditional French Liqueur was created in 1510 by Bénédictine monk Don Bernardo Vincelli using 27 herbs and spices including saffron, honey and caramel.

To register for the competition, arrive at the Epernay on the Great Northern Tower at Watson Street at 11am to begin at 12pm.

Entrants will be awarded extra points for bringing a Bénédictine bottle top along with them on the day.

To enter the competition, please contact Kat Morris or Claire Robinson on 0161 236 1352.
