Manchester encouraged to welcome little clay men and illuminated runners ahead of FutureEverything festival
Thousands of miniature ‘people’ will join Manchester's commuters as part of a city-wide art festival on May 16.
The clay people will be left around the city during the FutureEverything festival, in its 17th year, which runs from May 16 – 19 showcasing 'amazing artists and musicians who are all about the future'.
Mancunians will be encouraged to take away 8,000 figures which will be left around the city on the morning and upload their adventures to website www.sykey.org and on Twitter via #littleclaymen.
Artist Lawrence Epps, who is behind the work, is hoping that Manchester residents and visitors throw their support behind the project
He said: “I thought the people of Manchester might enjoy it and want to get involved and have some of the people to take home and play with.
“It's a wonderful city. It's got amazing cultural heritage.”
The festival includes other interactive exhibitions such as Blast Theory: I'd Hide you in which viewers can 'hitch a ride' on illuminated runners darting around the city.
Cameras, fixed to the runners, will be shown in a live feed online where points are scored for shooting opposing players and lives lost when caught by the opposing team.
Viewers will be able to play and interact online either on www.idhideyou.com, on twitter by following @idhideyou or at Teacup and Cakes, Thomas St, Northern Quarter.
Drew Hemment, FutureEverything founder, said: “People on a night out in the Northern Quarter are going to see all these crazy dressed up people running around Edge Street and all the cool bars.”
At the centre of the festival is a conference where leading thinkers will attend to discuss art, music and future related ideas.
Two musical 'flash-mob' exhibits will also be held, in Salford's MediaCityUK and Manchester Cathedral with Mancunian musicians urged to sign up and join in.
Mr Hemment said: “We're looking for professional musicians, amateur musicians, wannabe musicians who want to be in this incredible performance.”
