CHAMPIONS: City win Premier League

By Dean Wilkins

The Premier League champions Manchester City are parading their trophy in front of thouands of fans to mark their first title win in 44 years.

Excited Blues fans are expected to line the city centre streets today to witness their team show off their triumph which will start with an open-top bus tour from Albert Square, 6.30pm.

Police are warning fans to enjoy themselves for all the right reasons and that celebrations should not be ruined by alcohol fuelled violence and disorder.

Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney said: "It's been 44 years since their last league championship so fans will want to let off some steam and we would never try and discourage supporters enjoying themselves.

"We would simply say that people should drink sensibly and ensure they get to the city centre in plenty of time to enjoy the event.”

Albert Square will be open to the public from 4pm for all the pre-parade build-up and entertainment, on a non-ticketed, free, first come first served basis.

Assistant Chief Constable Sweeney said that there will be a on-street alcohol ban restricting drinking in public places.
