The critically acclaimed Northern Irish trio, Two Door Cinema Club, blew away the Manchester crowd as they played their way through their debut album, Tourist History.
The build-up to the headliners was nothing less than immense as a couple of relatively high-profile bands entertained the crowd. Both Tribes and Metronomy played impressive sets which left a lot to be desired for.
Tribes are destined for big things after Zane Lowe dubbed a track from their EP, We Were Children, named after the record, as the “hottest record in the world” last year. Their album, Baby, was released earlier this year and has seen the band rise to fame over night. They played a short set opening with Whenever which went down strongly with fans.
Metronomy were up next and played an explosive set. The band formed in 1999 and the music played in the set change between Tribes and Metronomy really set the mood for what was coming next. Remember Encore Une Fois, Freed From Desire and the infamous Hey Boy Hey Girl? It was like listening to Now 37 for a brief space of time before the band came on and played more contemporary electronic music.
Up next was the much anticipated Two Door Cinema Club who opened with an enigmatic intro that had the crowd guessing, however, after about twenty seconds it became obvious the first track was their notorious, Cigarettes In the Theatre.
With fans still reeling from the first track they went straight in to the catchy, mesmerising, Undercover Martyn. Frontman, Alex Trimble, told the crowd that he did not think the Manchester crowd could surpass the crowd first night they had played but that this bunch was mental and should keep on dancing.
They played Do You Want It All, This Is The Life, Something Good Can Work, You Are Not Stubborn, Eat That Up, It’s Good For you and Come Back Home as well as new material from the much awaited album they are about to start working on when this tour is over.
The highlight was when the band came back on and played their best known singles, What You Know and I Can Talk, both of which were fantastic.
On finishing their set, the modest band thanked the crowd and promised they would be back as soon as they have finished in the studio.
