Manchester City are close to sealing a deal for highly-rated Everton and England midfielder Jack Rodwell.

News broke early on Sunday that the 21-year-old will undergo a medical with the Premier League champions after the Merseysiders accepted an undisclosed bid – believed to be around the £15million mark.

City boss Roberto Mancini has been a long-time admirer of Rodwell and has stolen a march on rivals Manchester United, after seemingly losing out on Robin van Persie, who were linked with Rodwell for some time.

However, Rodwell spoke to a reporter and fans on a return flight from Malaga, where Everton had played a pre-season friendly, and is believed to have not asked for a move, but was told that the bid was too good to turn down.
