By Helen Le Caplain

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following the deaths of a couple in Sale.

Stephen Seddon, 45, of Benevente Street, County Durham was charged and is due to appear before Manchester Magistrates Court on July 13.

At approximately 4.35pm on July 6 police were called to Clough Avenue, Sale, following a concern for welfare of the occupants of the house.

Officers attended and forced entry.

The bodies of 68-year-old Bob Seddon and a 65-year-old Patricia Seddon were discovered.

A Home Office post mortem revealed both had died from gunshot wounds.

Four months ago Mr and Mrs Seddon were plunged into a canal in a car driven by their son but they escaped after firefighters dragged them out of the vehicle.

Their son freed himself and his 16-year-old nephew and was hailed a hero.
