CRACKNELL: James joins BupaFlash run

By Hannah Hulme

Bupa are calling for Mancunians to run alongside Olympic medallist James Cracknell in a 5k race at Salford Quays next week, ahead of the Great Manchester Run.

The BupaFlash Run, which will take place on May 16, is a warm up for the race next weekend and will lead runners on a course starting at MediaCityUK.

Cracknell, who won rowing gold in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, will join the runners to kick off the race at lunchtime.

Bupa Spokesperson, Ruth McIntyre, said: “It’s going to be a fantastic day and we’re hoping as many Mancunian runners as possible will be joining us.”

The 10k Bupa Great Manchester run will take place on May 20, leading participants from Portland Street through the city finishing on Deansgate.

There will be entertainment for crowds and runners with ‘Bands on the Run’ positions throughout the course.

Musical stages will also entertain the crowd in Spinningfields, run by Brave Music and Hipswing.

Damian Morgan, MD of Brave Music, said: “This year’s lineup at the run is our best ever. We have five stages showcasing some of this city’s finest bands.

“As usual Clint Boon’s stage will be blasting out an array of Madchester classic tunes. Good luck to everyone taking part in the race. It’s going to be a real party atmosphere afterwards.”

Those who wish to get involved in the BupaFlash run should follow the Bupa Runners Facebook and Twitter for further information.
