Newly retired BBC Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles is being replaced by Oldham’s Nick Grimshaw, who will be the new voice of the morning.
The 38-year-old DJ announced his decision to leave the breakfast show after eight years and Royton-born Grimmy will be his replacement when he leaves in September.
The radio station has been pressurised to steer the show to a younger audience and the 27-year-old northerner is being given the challenge to do so.
Nick Grimshaw said: "I'm super-excited to be hosting the iconic Radio 1 Breakfast Show, it's been a dream of mine since the age of 11 and to be honest it hasn't really sunk in yet.
"I love Chris and have always looked up to him as one of the best broadcasters ever."
Grimshaw already presents Radio 1’s night-time show on Sundays to Thursdays and has been with the station since 2009.
The Chris Moyles show has just over 7.1million listeners, down from 7.5million listeners last year.
The show’s overall listeners went from 9.7million in 2004 when the show started to a high of 11.8million in 2010.
