'UNPROVOKED': Attack left man 'scarred for life'

By Ben Burrows

A man needed stitches after being glassed in an unprovoked attack in a Leigh nightclub in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The 19-year-old man was hit with a glass or bottle inside The Sound Bar on King Street.

The item was thrown from within the club and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Craig Hurst, of Wigan CID, said: “The victim’s injuries are so serious that he will be scarred for life.

“Using a glass as a weapon can have potentially fatal consequences and I want help from the public to find whoever is responsible.

The man suffered an injury to his head that required nine staples, and DC Hurst added: “This was a needless and unprovoked attack - the offender clearly has no regard for others.

“I want anyone with information about the person responsible to call police.”
